Site Builder Role

Hero Widget

Hero image layouts allow site builders to add full-width images with text (and optional videos and links) across the top of your home page or landing pages. The styles and layouts match the new design of the Berkeley homepage and News website.

Add a Spotlight (slideshow)

Overview

Spotlights are photo slideshows that contain images overlaid with optional titles and descriptions. You can link them to pages on your site, or to external webpages.

Spotlight images are fully-responsive; the spotlight will rescale itself to fit the space available to it depending on your page layout and the viewer's device size. For best results, you may want to crop and resize your images to one of the available layout styles/ratios (see below) before you upload them.

Create New Content

Overview

To create new pages on your site, hover over Dashboard --> Content in your Admin menu, or visit your Editor/Site Builder Dashboard (admin/dashboard).

The "Editor" and "Contributor" roles can create new Content Pages, FAQs, and News Items. If optional features are enabled, Editors and Contributors can also create content of those types.

Add File

To feature a downloadable link to a file, select the "Add File" option. Please note that you can also provide a downloadable link to a file in a widget by using the "Add Text" widget option and using the "Add Media" button (see Add Attachments from the Editors Guide).

Promo Blocks

The promo block widgets feature 1-2 lines of text (primary heading text and an optional secondary line of paragraph text) on top of Public Affairs-approved background colors. There are two types of promo blocks: Promo Block, and Promo Block with Image.

Add Image

NOTE: Large (high resolution) images may cause performance issues and could possibly cause other site errors. Try to only upload photos that have a file size of 1MB or smaller when using this widget.

Add Content Item

The "Add Content Item" allows you to display an existing content item on your site in a widget area. Start typing the title of the content item in the "Piece of Content" box, and select the item from the list provided. Under "Content Settings," select how you would like the content item to be displayed ("Full Content," "Teaser," etc.).

NOTE: Currently, when adding a new Content Item widget, the Preview window will default to an existing content item. You can choose another item following the instructions above.

Add Links

When selecting "Add links," you will have the option to add a list of links in a widget. These can be internal or external links. Use the "Find Link" button to add either internal or external links to the widget, and fill in the titles accordingly.

Twitter Widget

Twitter Widget allows site builders to add Twitter timeline widgets to pages. You need a regular Twitter account to create these widgets, but you do not need a Twitter developer account or API key.

Add Text

The "Add Text" option is a very flexible widget option. You can add as much text as needed, as well as images and files and links, with the full editing toolbar available (see Edit Content from the Editors Guide).
