News Listings Widgets

Overview

There are several options for displaying your News content in a widget. Select "News" from "Add Existing Content," then click the "Add" button for the view you'd like to feature in a widget.

Limited WYSIWYG Toolbar

In regular Content pages and Text widgets, there is a "regular" (full) editing, a.k.a. WYSIWYG, toolbar. However, there are a few features in Open Berkeley that only allow a limited subset of tags.

Add Video (YouTube, Vimeo)

The "Add Video' widget allows you to embed a YouTube or Vimeo video on your site. This widget supports YouTube video playlists and YouTube's "start at a specific time" feature. The "Add Video" widget will embed a video in one of the available layout regions, and site visitors will select the "play" button to play the video directly on your page.

Edit the Home Page

Overview of Your Website's Home Page

Your home page is populated and organized by layouts and widgets. It has the same general behavior as a Landing Page. There are a few important items to consider when editing your home page.

Responsive Behavior of Widgets/Layouts

The Open Berkeley design is "responsive". This means that when you choose a certain layout for a page and add widgets to different regions within the layout, the widgets will follow a different flow based on the width of the device where they're being viewed (e.g., desktop, mobile, or tablet devices).

Class Listings

The Class Listings widget allows Site Builders to embed a filtered list of classes from the Berkeley Academic Guide. The Academic Guide is is a robust tool to help the campus community explore Berkeley’s curricula and find classes, with various filters available.

Layouts and Widgets

Site Builders are allowed to "customize" pages by changing the layout of a page, and adding different types of widgets in the layout regions, in order to organize and feature content. This layout and widget functionality is available on almost every page of an Open Berkeley site.

Layouts and Widgets on Landing Pages vs. Content Pages

On a Landing page, customizing the page and using layouts and widgets is REQUIRED. On Content pages, customizing the page is OPTIONAL, and the majority of the content is contained within the "Edit" tab of the Content page (in the "Body" field)....

Edit Summary on Content Items

On many content types on the Open Berkeley platform, there is an "Edit Summary" option. On Landing pages, the label for this field is "Summary".

Create Landing Pages

"Landing pages" are pages without one primary chunk of content. Use them when you want a page with multiple content items of similar importance. They may be used as home pages, section home pages, galleries, etc. Only Site Builders and Widget Editors can create and edit Landing pages. There are a variety of pre-configured available layouts with a variety of regions (hero, header, sidebar, etc.) on your Open Berkeley pages to help feature and organize your content.
