Your home page is populated and organized by layouts and widgets. It has the same general behavior as a Landing Page. There are a few important items to consider when editing your home page.

Responsive Behavior of Widgets/Layouts

The Open Berkeley design is "responsive". This means that when you choose a certain layout for a page and add widgets to different regions within the layout, the widgets will follow a different flow based on the width of the device where they're being viewed (e.g., desktop, mobile, or tablet devices).

Layouts and Widgets

Site Builders are allowed to "customize" pages by changing the layout of a page, and adding different types of widgets in the layout regions, in order to organize and feature content. This layout and widget functionality is available on almost every page of an Open Berkeley site.

Edit Summary on Content Items

On many content types on the Open Berkeley platform, there is an "Edit Summary" option. On Landing pages, the label for this field is "Summary".

Add Table (widget)

The "Add Table" widget is a widget that allows users to put a basic table in a widget area. The table will have a "header" row, and additional "data" rows.

Note about the Add Table widget

There are a few ways to add tables on the Open Berkeley platform, and the the "Add Table" widget is one of them. The "Add Table" widget does not allow any additional formatting (such as bold, italic, or links).

Add Submenu

Overview

You can feature menus from your site in a widget area by using the "Add Submenu" option. Select "Override Title" to add your own title if desired (otherwise, the title defaults to the chosen menu, and links to the parent item), then select the "Starting level" (1st level, 2nd level, etc.).

Listings Widgets

There are several "listings" widgets available, which allow you to show a listing of content with various display options. The workflow for constructing Listings widgets is to build your content first (i.e., create Content pages, News items, FAQ items, etc.), and then select Listings widgets that will display your content as desired.

Revisions

Overview of Revisions

On Open Berkeley sites, revisions are enabled by default on live sites, which means that each site keeps track of each change that is made by each user. This means that you will have a record of the previous content in addition to your edits. Each update to a page is tracked as a separate revision.

Revisions allow all Editors and Site Builders to keep track of the changes made to their Open Berkeley site, and can be especially helpful if multiple people are making changes to the same site.
