On our platform, there is a widget available that lets you add a slideshow/carousel of photos. This widget is called the Spotlight Widget.
Best Practices
Slideshows can be a nice way to feature interesting photos on your website, and to link the photos to important content on your site.
- Try not to over-use or rely too much on slideshows. From a user interaction perspective, studies have shown that site visitors may not click on slideshow content as often as we might think, and overall, that slideshows might cause confusion/induce user apathy (reference: Carousel Interaction Stats, Slideshows are a Blindspot, Slideshows can Distract or Induce User Apathy).
- If you would like to consider an alternative to the Spotlight widget, there are many other widgets available, such as Hero widgets, Photo Thumbnails, Promo Blocks, and more.
- Always add alt text for accessibility.
