The University of California's Information Technology Accessibility Policy (effective August 27, 2013) states that all campus websites and web applications should be accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use assistive technologies.
Open Berkeley is Built to Support Accessibility
The platform is regularly tested for accessibility, and any new features are vetted for accessibility before they are deployed. Content creators (Contributors, Editors, and Site Builders) on Open Berkeley sites are responsible for ensuring the accessibility of the content they feature on their sites, including text, images, audio and video, and widget content.
Make Sure Your Content is as Accessible as Possible!
There are many best practices that content creators can follow in order to make their Open Berkeley website as accessible as possible to people with disabilities. Examples include:
- Adding alt text to images (especially images containing data or text, such as infographics)
- Using headings correctly
- Using tables for tabular data, not for layout
- Creating descriptive link text (no "click here" links!)
