Version 0.12.2 (and 0.12.0)

March 17, 2017

Overview

The 0.12.2 and 0.12.0 releases of Open Berkeley contain new components, updates to existing features, and code updates.

New and updated features

Give to Cal widget

The new Give to Cal widget allows you to embed a Give to Cal form for your unit on your pages. For more information on Give to Cal, see University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR). For instructions on how to use the widget, see Give to Cal widget.

Collapsible content list widget

The new Collapsible Content List widget allows you to create a list of content that is displayed in the accessible expand/collapse format. It is very similar to the existing Content List widget. The list can be filtered by content types and by sitewide topics.

We do not recommend adding multiple collapsible widgets on the same page.

We have also updated the regular Content List widget to be filterable by topic.

Reusable images for Spotlight and Mega Menu

It is now possible to choose an existing image from your media library - including stock images - when creating a Spotlight or adding an image to a Mega Menu. A copy of the image will be cropped and scaled to fit the dimensions of the widget (see Image Shapes and Sizes).

Brand and component updates

Square and rectangle styles for Photo Thumbnail and Promo with Image widgets

When creating Photo Thumbnail and Promo with Image widgets, you now have the option to choose a square or rectangle image style. A copy of an image you upload, or choose from the library, will be scaled and cropped to fit the dimensions of the widget.

Before this update, Photo Thumbnail and Promo with Image widgets did not enforce consistent aspect ratios for images, resulting in inconsistent display and vertical alignment of widgets. Consistent use of these new styles will help you align your widgets vertically across page regions. Existing widgets created previously will not be changed, and can still be edited or moved. All new Promo with Image and Photo Thumbnail widgets will be created with these new, consistent aspect ratios.

See Image Shapes and Sizes for more information about preparing images for use in Brand widgets.

Improvements to Text Box and Video Split Hero widgets

Text Box and Video Split Hero widgets have been updated to more closely align with Brand standards. In particular, they have been adjusted so that images are no longer upscaled and partially obscured by the text box. If you have modified any of your Hero images to work around the previous limitation, you should upload a new image.

New and recategorized Hero layouts

The new release includes Hero versions of the Oahu and Kauai layouts. Layouts have been reorganized into just two categories: Standard layouts and Hero layouts. There is no longer a distinction between "Radix" and "Open Berkeley" layouts. Hero layouts are only available on the home page and other landing pages (for using the full-width Hero widget and Color Bands).

Display adjustments

In order to more closely align with the Berkeley Brand standards, we have made some minor changes to various aspects of page display. These include:

  • Changing the responsive stacking behavior, so that multicolumn layouts stay multicolumn at some narrower widths.
  • Adjusting the margins on items in mega menus.
  • Adjusting the vertical alignment of the text in Landing hero widgets.
  • Removing "Web" from some Brand color names, after the Brand team synchronized print and web colors.
  • Adjusting the "Bay Fog" color.

Code updates

  • Add a function to convert hardcoded internal links in URL fields to relative paths.
  • Add SCSS linting to base and brand themes.
  • Improve accessibility of main menu toggle at mobile widths.
  • Fix margins on nested lists at mobile widths.
  • Fix occasional overrides leading to certain widgets being unavailable on the Add Content screen.
  • Display the HTML tag breadcrumb path at the bottom of the WYSIWYG editor.
  • Fix token browser tree links.
