Version 0.6 and 0.6.1

November 20, 2015

The 0.6 version of Open Berkeley contains new features and code updates. Some of the new features are beta releases; we will enable them on request for customers who want to be early adopters. And some new features are only available to sites that are using the new Berkeley Brand theme.

This page also includes bug fixes released in version 0.6.1.

These notes detail only changes since the previous release. For information about features released before this version, see our documentation in the Site Builders Guide.

Note on Early Adopter / Beta Testing New features:

Being an early adopter means that you will be among the first to use the new features. There may be limited documentation and possible issues not yet discovered, so please be aware of trying out new features on a live production website. If you would like to be an early adopter of a particular new feature, please send an email to web-platform@berkeley.edu specifying the feature and your website. As an early adopter / beta tester, if you find any issues we would appreciate it if you report them to us ASAP. Otherwise, if you do not have time to participate in beta testing, you may not want to be an early adopter and should wait until the new features are available for all Open Berkeley customers to use.

New Features

Accessible Expand/Collapse

This feature is available to everyone.

Site builders who are comfortable editing HTML directly can add expanding/collapsing content sections to any content page or text widget. Once you have inserted an expanding/collapsing section, you will be able to edit it using the WYSIWYG.

For more information, see our documentation at Expand/Collapse Content.

Service Catalog

Service Catalog is a beta feature. If you are interested in being an early adopter, email ist-drupal@berkeley.edu and we will enable it for you.

Service Catalog provides a content type and a listings page that you can use to publicize services that your department provides. You can add an icon, link (for online services), and service categories for each service.

Service Catalog is often used with Portfolio (see below). For more information, see our documentation at Service Catalog.

Portfolio

Portfolio is a beta feature. If you are interested in being an early adopter, email ist-drupal@berkeley.edu and we will enable it for you.

Portfolio allows site builders to create accessible, filterable grid displays of content. You can choose which content types to display and what terms to filter them on.

Portfolio is often used with Service Catalog (see above), but it can be used for any type of content, including multiple types at once. For more information, see our documentation at Portfolio.

Twitter Widget

Twitter Widget is a beta feature. If you are interested in being an early adopter, email ist-drupal@berkeley.edu and we will enable it for you.

Twitter Widget allows site builders to add Twitter timeline widget panes to pages. You can use a username, hashtag, list, or collection to populate the widget. You need a regular Twitter account to create these widgets, but you do not need a Twitter developer account or API key.

For more information, see our documentation at Twitter Widget.

Hero Image Layouts

Heros are a beta feature, and are only available to sites using the new Berkeley Brand theme. If you are interested in being an early adopter, email ist-drupal@berkeley.edu and we will enable them for you.

Hero image layouts allow site builders to add full-width images with text (and optional videos and links) across the top of your home page or landing pages. The styles and layouts match the new design of the Berkeley homepage and News website.

For more information, see our documentation at Hero Widget.

Stock Images

Public Affairs has made available some images of campus scenery and activities that are intended for use in Hero layouts. When adding the image for a Hero widget, switch to the Library tab to open the image library. Filter the images by the tag “Stock images” to see the available options. For more information, see our documentation at Hero Widget.
