UC Berkeley wordmark update

September 20, 2024

The Office of Communications and Public Affairs has released updates to the UC Berkeley branding materials. One of these updates to the Brand is a change to the UC Berkeley wordmark.

Summary

  • This update will involve structural changes to the blue bar and site name area of Open Berkeley sites.
  • This will likely be the only major Brand change that will be added to Open Berkeley sites, as all additional Brand updates will be incorporated into our new platform (Berkeley Web Builder) when ready.

Below is an overview of the UC Berkeley wordmark update as well as examples of how parent organization text and secondary menu items will display on Open Berkeley sites once the update has been made.

If you have any questions, please email web-platform@berkeley.edu.

About the wordmark update

Prior to the Brand update, the term "wordmark" on Open Berkeley sites has referred to the word "Berkeley" placed before the site name in the banner region of each site. In the blue bar, above the wordmark and the site name, there has been a "UC Berkeley" link and the site's parent organization (if in use).

The following structural changes will happen once the new UC Berkeley wordmark is in place:

  • The wordmark text will change from "Berkeley" to "UC Berkeley."
  • The new UC Berkeley wordmark will replace the "UC Berkeley" link in the blue bar.
  • The blue bar will be taller to accommodate the updates.
  • The parent organization may show up as two lines depending on the number of characters (if in use).
  • The secondary menu and Quick Links region may display as two lines depending on the number of characters and menu items (if in use).
