Site Builder Role

Add Video (YouTube or Vimeo)

To embed a YouTube or Vimeo video on your site, use the "Add Video" widget option. This widget also supports YouTube video playlists.

Add an optional title, then click "Browse".

Copy and paste the URL of your video from YouTube or Vimeo into the "File URL or media resource" field, then hit "Next".

Book Feature

The Book feature helps you create organized documentation, regulations, manuals, or other content that has a sequential or hierarchical structure.

Re-Order and Manage Menu Items

Site builders have the ability to re-order menu items, as well as edit existing menu items and add new menu items.

On the Site Builder Dashboard, in the "Administer Menus" section, you can click on "Manage links" for a specific menu (e.g., "Main Menu").

Organize and Customize Book Pages

Site builders can use these advanced features to customize their books and book pages.

Add, edit, and move Book Pages

Your book will be made up primarily of Book Pages. Other content types such as Content Pages, News, etc. cannot be added to books. You may add the occasional Landing Page as the top-level page or as a chapter-heading page.

Please note, top-level book pages cannot be unpublished without disrupting the structure of the book and potentially other books. Other book pages with child pages must also remain published, or you may disrupt the structure of their book.

Attachment Links

Overview

If you've uploaded an attachment (PDF, Word, etc. - see Add Attachments), you can add a link to that attachment by following the same steps you would take to link to an internal page.

Advanced Site Maintenance

Open Berkeley includes a set of tools that will help you maintain your site's quality after it is finished and launched. These tools are available to users with the Site Builder role.

Site Builder Admin Menu and Dashboard

Admin Menu

When you are logged in, you will see a black admin bar at the upper left side of the page. From this menu, you can easily perform such actions as view content, add content, view and add files, access your Dashboard, log out, etc.

Site Builder Dashboard

The "Dashboard" page contains all of the actions that your role is allowed to perform.

URL Aliases (Friendly Path Names)

URL aliases (e.g., “about-us” instead of “node/9”) are automatically assigned by default, and are what appear in the URL of your individual pages (e.g., http://YOURSITE.berkeley.edu/about-us). If desired, they can be manually assigned when creating or editing a node, and site builders also have the option of administering aliases via the site builder dashboard.

Edit photos and files from the dashboard

From your admin menu and dashboard, you can edit the default alt and title text of image files, change the names of files, replace a file with a new version, and crop an image.

To perform any of these actions, navigate to your "Files" tab by hovering over your admin menu, or clicking on your dashboard in the upper left corner of your site.
